Another top-quality organic offering from Ethiopia! We have sourced this washed, sun-dried Ethiopian coffee from the Gedeb District within the Gedeo Zone. The full pedigree is Gedeb 1 Organic Gotiti. The cup intertwines hints of floral and citrusy fruit notes on a base of delightful caramel flavors.
The beans are grown on small family-owned plots located at elevations between 6,200 and 7,200 feet at the base of the Mendero Mountains. Cultivating indigenous heirloom trees using organic practices, farmers sun-dry the beans after harvesting ripe coffee cherries. The farmers are organized under METAD Agricultural Development PLC (METAD). METAD is a third –generation family owned coffee business devoted to producing top quality coffee while strengthening the local community.
METAD provides technical assistance, a modern farming equipment share program, and aids with certification processes for more than 5,000 local farmers. They use proceeds to build roads and community centers in the coffee growing region. The workforce is over seventy percent women, and the organization provides educational opportunities including university scholarships and an elementary school with over 700 students, and health care for employees. In the region META was the first to partner with Grounds for Health in Ethiopia to implement a cervical cancer screening program for women.
